5ive - Planet Be [Thinner Grooves] [2019]
One thing you may notice is that there is very little information about 5ive online, apart from a few articles, sets and radio invitations. His message has always centered on art, music in its pure form, and real human connection rather than chasing social clouds.
We met several times in Thailand and Vietnam and spoke about music, life, and production. He is one of the kindest people I know and a true inspiration to many of us who follow his work.
Although he is or has been part of other projects or collaborations like Cos/Mes & Mascaras, “Planet Be” was his solo debut EP, released in 2019 on the label founded by Powder called “Thinner Grooves”. I have to admit, every time I listen to this record, even today, it feels like taking a breath of fresh air again. A true instant classic.
Between the four tracks there is lot of shape-shifting moments, unpredictable turns, and tribal spacey grooves that slow down time while pulling you in with delicate movements and emotional atmospheres, creating a clear textural signature that runs through the entire EP.
To round it off, there is also a beautiful “Planet Be” remix by Hashman Deejay, a dream-like dub techno reinterpretation of the original.
